Let's Get Funked Up!

The songs below are some of the crackers that have made frequent appearances on my playlists this summer.

PNAU - The Truth (Jump Jump Dance Dance Remix)
M83 - We Own The Sky (L-Wiz Relick)
Coeur De Pirate - Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Charmichael Remix)
Little Red - Rock It (Jad And The Ladyboy Remix)

Probably my favorite four right now. I have included the original of Little Red's Rock It in a previous post but this remix is just as good. And I don't know what is being said in Coeure De Pirate's brilliant song, but who cares. It's awesome. And PNAU and M83's songs are just too addictive. One listen and you'll be begging for another sample.

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Starsmith Remix Ft. Ellie Goulding)

Ellie Goulding is unbelievable. Her debut album, Lights/Bright Lights, was very well received which was acknowledged when she won the Choice Award at this year's Brit Awards. Her voice is unique and she doesn't need to wear retarded outfits made out of raw meat to get noticed.

Ratatat - Wildcat

Finally, Ratatat! These guys have been around for ages and I've only recently discovered them after they collaborated with Kid Cudi on The Pursuit Of Happiness. They are a purely instrumental band that always have the craziest guitar riffs. Wildcat is one of their earlier songs but I will do a post of my favorites soon.

Enjoy!

Put Your Hands Up 'Indie' Air

So I thought it would be a good idea to put up a short list of some of the indie songs that I have enjoyed over this summer. Most of these songs are relatively new but there are some classics in there that I just can't stop listening to.

Little Red - Rock It
Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home

The three songs have very catchy hooks i.e. the choruses of Rock It and Sprawl II will stay in your head for days and the whistling in Home will annoy all your friends as you whistle away.

Aeroplane vs Friendly Fires vs Flight Facilities - I Crave Paris
I Blame Coco - Selfmachine (LaRoux Remix)

Sting ("Every breath you take...") was quite the player back in the day and may have many many kids we or even he doesn't know about. Luckily however, we know of one of his daughters, Eliot Paulina Sumner. She is the lead singer of I Blame Coco and if you get La Roux to remix one of your songs then you must be doing something right.

LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean

LCD Soundsystem have announced that they are retiring after playing their final show at Madison Square Gardens in New York on 2 April. The song above was their last major single and is an excellent way to exit the game. Turn the volume up high for Dance Yrself Clean and wait. Just be patient.

The Naked And Famous - Punching In A Dream
The Naked And Famous - Young Blood

This New-Zealand group have taken over the blogosphere with their first studio album Passive Me, Aggressive You. Their first single Young Blood will get any party started and I defy any person who does not go full retard whilst listening to Punching In A Dream.

Yeasayer - Ambling Alp
Yeasayer - O.N.E.

Once again two songs from one artist. Am I lazy? No. Yeasayer was the most blogged artist of 2010 and with reason. Their album Odd Blood produced these two gems. You're welcome!

Chiddy Bang - Opposite Of Adults
Theophilus London - Humdrum Town

Chiddy Bang's single has the sample from MGMT's Kids in the background hence the name of the song, Opposite Of Adults. Get it?

Zeds Dead Baby!

Zeds Dead made a very big impression when I heard Blue Foundation - Eyes On Fire (Zeds Dead Remix) for the first time. They are absolutely incredible artists and capable of taking songs which are themselves masterpieces and then they manage to take it to an even higher level. If you love dub then you will fall in love with these guys. If you don't love dub, go buy a Black Eyed Peas album. For the dub freaks out there, carry on through the list and let your ears start melting.

Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin (Zeds Dead Remix)
The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (Zeds Dead Remix)
Massive Attack - Paradise Circus (Zeds Dead Remix)
Dragonette - Volcano (Zeds Dead Remix)
Zeds Dead - Rude Boy

You should also listen to the original version of The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter which can be heard in the intro of the movie The Departed. It is incredibly badass and should be in your music collection.

The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter

The next post will focus primarily on the best summer indie/house tunes. Till then people!

A Kid Named Cudi

Okay so this guy has to be the coolest hip-hop artist at the moment having worked with Ratatat, MGMT, and Vampire Weekend to name a few. And I know he has also worked with David Guetta but one could forgive him for this considering the next few songs that he has done are brilliant.

Snoop Dogg Ft. Kid Cudi - That Tree (The Soundmen Remix)
Johnny Polygon Ft. Kid Cudi - The Riot Song (The Soundmen Remix)

The above songs are both remixed by The Soundmen. Seems everyone wants to work with Cudder.

Dan Black Ft. Kid Cudi - Symphonies

This song is probably one my favorites at the moment. It's very chilled and probably not gonna go in your "Let's Get Tropical" playlist but it's sick regardless.

Obviously, Kid Cudi has also done some songs with his founder and mentor, Kanye West.

Kanye West Ft. Kid Cudi & Raekwon - Gorgeous

I love the riff used throughout this song.

Kid Cudi Ft. Kanye West - Erase Me

The song posted above is more rock-ish and less hip-hop but regardless, the chorus is too catchy to leave this song out.

Stay tuned!
